Directions to Group Camp #2   of Raccoon Creek State Park in Hookstown, Pennsylvania. 

Raccoon Creek State Park is in southern Beaver County. Access the park from the west on US 22 and US 30, or from the north and south on PA 18, which passes directly through the park.

To get to the campsite, proceed to the Raccoon Creek State Park office, which is located on PA Route 18.  (For those traveling north on Route 18, the park office will be on the left.)  Turn onto the road that passes the park office.  Travel a little more than one mile, and enter Group Camp #2.  Proceed straight ahead until you come the Dining Hall, which is the first large building on the left.

The park has three group cabins.  We are going to be in group cabin / camp # 2 .  This group cabin / camp # 2 agains consists of 4 units.  We have all these 4 units to ourselves.  Each unit in turn has 8 cabins and a wash room.  Out of these 8 cabins, six cabins contain four beds in each and the other two cabins contain 2 beds each.  So each family can have their "own" cabin.  Apart from this there is a community area containing central kitchen and dining and recreational area.
 
There is a small walk (100 ft) to the washroom from cabins.  So please bring flash lights.  Wash rooms contain flush toilet, hot shower and many sinks

Raccoon Creek State Park

Raccoon Creek State Park has continued to develop from the park’s beginning as a Recreational Demonstration Area operated by the National Park Service in the 1930s, to one of the largest and most beautiful state parks in Pennsylvania. Facilities at the park are a mix from the early Civilian Conservation Corps camp to modern facilities. In addition to recreational areas, there are large tracts of undeveloped land. The 7,572-acre park features the beautiful 101-acre Raccoon Lake

Recreational Opportunities

Picnicking: About 500 picnic tables are in the park’s five picnic areas. All picnic areas have grills, drinking water and restrooms. The two large and three small picnic pavilions in the main picnic area may be reserved up to 11 months in advance for a fee. Unreserved picnic pavilions are free on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fishing: The 101-acre Raccoon Lake has bluegill, sunfish, bullhead catfish, yellow perch, walleye, muskellunge, crappie, sauger, and largemouth and smallmouth bass. Cold-water fish like brook trout and rainbow trout are stocked and found both in the lake and in feeder streams. There is an accessible fishing pier on Raccoon Lake. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission laws apply.

Swimming: The 800-foot, accessible sand/turf beach is open from late-May to mid-September, 8 a.m. to sunset. Lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, unless otherwise posted. Please read and follow posted rules for swimming when lifeguards are off-duty. A bathhouse and a food refreshment stand are nearby.

The 172 modern tent and trailer campsites are open from the second Friday in April to mid-October. Rustic sites are available from mid-October to mid-April. Access is not guaranteed during severe winter storms. The wooded campground offers a selection of secluded or adjoining sites, a playground, five central washhouses with hot showers and a sanitary dump station. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Campsites B, 1, 2 and 3 are ADA accessible.

The park has many Group Camp Areas.  We are going to be in Group Camp #2 .  This Group Camp # 2 consists of 4 Clusters of Private Cabins.  We have all these 4 Clusters of Cabins to ourselves.  Each cluster  in turn has 8 cabins and a wash room.  Out of these 8 cabins, six cabins contain four beds in each and the other two cabins contain 2 beds each.  In total we have about 35 Private Cabins. Each cabin can accomodate 4 people. So each family can have their "own" cabin.  Apart from this there is a community area containing central kitchen and dining and recreational area.
